The CIG Project: An Overview
National Survey on Citizens Inclusion in Governance is a programme targeted to source and harvest rich and holistic data from all communities (grassroots) across Nigeria, which will give the government a road path in determining the impacts of past, present and the planning of projects and programmes that will have direct bearing on the lives and existence of the Nigerian people.
A more expansive concept of government is to cushion the inability of citizens to provide for themselves, particularly in the vulnerable conditions of youth, aging, sickness, disability, literacy, empowerment and unemployment due to economic forces beyond their control.
In solving issues of coordination failure from household levels to the state and to federal levels, is paramount to having a reformed data gathering process in Nigeria. Without adequate data, it is impossible to know how much development is actually taking place in Nigeria.
Background
“The extent of the power held by data in the world today and the administrative problems caused by lack of data (and evidence) in Nigeria shows that the importance of gathering, collection and retrieval of adequate data cannot be overemphasized.
The influence of data, details the need for the use of statistical data and information at individual, institutional, local government, state government, national and international levels for evidence-based policy designs. The amount of data, its quality and management will, to a large extent, determine the economic governance of a country.
In pursuance of good governance and development, bringing data to bear on and in governance is pivotal for governing stakeholders and for policymakers. Since governance is too important to be left in the hands of the government alone: everyone has a part to play in making the process of data collection as smooth as possible.
Citizens’ Inclusion in Nigeria. The Resolve
Data gathering by private individuals, researchers and organisations is encouraged, in line with bridging the existing information gaps. However, there is need for renewed coordination between all levels and stakeholders in government.
